                                    HOT DOGS ARE HISTORY!

Frankfurters originated in Frankfurt, Germany as early as the 13th century when given to people as finger food on the event of imperial coronations, starting with the coronation of Maximilian II, Holy Emperor as King.  A Royal celebration appetizer!

The hot dog came to America as an immigrant from Germany in 1870, when Charles Feltman began selling them on Coney Island as a treat.

Baseball and hot dogs got together in 1893 with the St. Louis Browns, and an amusement park owned by Cris von der Ahe, another German immigrant.

In 1916, a Polish immigrant and employee of Feltman's did what Americans do best.  Nathan Handweker, with the support of Eddie Cantor and Jimmy Durante, went into competition with his former employer, charging 5 cents for a dog, when his former employer was charging 10 cents.  Yes, you guessed it, the beginning of Nathans' Hot Dogs.

There was a great story in 1892 concerning "Hot Dog Morris:"
Somehow or other a frankfurter and a roll seem to go right to the spot where the
void is felt the most.  A small boy got on such familiar terms with this sort of lunch that
he referred to it as a "Hot Dog."  He would say, "Hey Mister, give me a hot dog quick!"  And
with a hot dog inserted into the slice of the roll, a dash of mustard, that Hot Dog was quickly
   delivered.

This easy, tasty treat has become a staple of American & European households, and with
with our chef's creativity, has become a culinary delight as well.
